Rules

Play fair, report honestly

The short version: be 13 or older, show up on time, stream if you're on PC, report the real result, and keep your evidence. The Fortnite rules are below.

These rules are a draft for the closed beta and will be reviewed before any prizes are awarded. Prize terms for each split are published before the split starts.

Who can play

  • You must be 13 or older (or older if your country requires it). You confirm your age before you queue.
  • One Lockd account per person. Alternate accounts are banned.
  • Players banned from Fortnite can't take part in Fortnite matches.

Matches

  • All ladder modes are best of three. Win two games to take the match. Report each game as it finishes.
  • For ladder matches, ready up within 90 seconds of a match being found. Miss a ready check and you lose the ELO a win in that match would have earned you. Miss 2 in a row and you can't queue for 10 minutes; 3 or more in a row, 30 minutes. The count starts again when you ready up, or after a day without a miss. Cups have a 10-minute ready check instead. Follow the deadline shown in your match room.
  • Get into the game within 5 minutes of the match starting. After that, the side that showed up can claim a no-show win, which the other side can dispute within 30 minutes.
  • Before anything is played, a match can be cancelled if both teams agree. One side can't cancel on its own, and a cancelled match doesn't change anyone's rating. Staff can also cancel a match that has no result yet, and they always say why.
  • Your match room, on the website and in Discord, is private to the players in it and Lockd staff. Every match is logged, including cancelled ones, and match chat is kept so staff can act on reports.
  • Report the result as soon as the match ends. The other side confirms it, or it confirms automatically after 20 minutes.
  • Each game has its own ratings, leaderboards, and seasons. How you do in one never changes the other.

Fortnite

  • Your match room gives the island code. Everyone joins that island within the 5 minutes.
  • If the code doesn't work, press Map broken to get a new one. Don't play on a different island unless nobody has another code.
  • Everyone plays together, whatever platform or input they use.

Streaming on PC

  • PC players stream every Lockd match, cups included, live on Twitch, YouTube or Kick, so the other side and staff can check. Console players don't have to.
  • PC players aged 13 to 17 don't have to stream either. We recommend recording your matches at least, so you have evidence if there's a dispute. That goes for anyone who doesn't stream.
  • Say which platform you play on before you queue. On PC, add the channel you stream on to your account, or say you're 13 to 17. Everyone in your match gets your stream link, never your age. Giving the wrong platform or age to dodge streaming breaks the rules.
  • Stream the whole match, and keep the broadcast saved (past broadcasts or VODs on) for at least 7 days. Camera and mic are up to you.
  • If someone on the other side who had to stream wasn't live, press They weren't streaming instead of confirming the result. A moderator checks their channel and can give you the match. A claim that turns out wrong counts as a false report.
  • Watching the other side's stream while you play (stream sniping) is cheating. You can add a stream delay if you like.

Evidence, disputes, and appeals

  • Disputes and appeals must be backed by an end-of-match screenshot or a clip link, posted within 30 minutes.
  • Some matches ask for a proof screenshot before reporting. This is random, and more likely for top-ranked players. A side with a PC player on it has its stream as proof, so only sides without one post the screenshot.
  • Screenshots may be checked automatically. When the check isn't clear, a moderator decides. Moderators can reverse an automatic decision for an hour afterwards.
  • Reporting, disputing, or appealing a result that turns out to be wrong gives you a queue cooldown that grows if it keeps happening.
  • You can keep adding clips and VODs to a match page for 14 days. These are for show and can't reopen a result.

Fair play

  • No win trading, boosting, throwing, or playing on someone else's account. Lockd looks for these patterns and moderators review them.
  • No cheats, exploits, or third-party tools that give an advantage.
  • Be respectful in match chat and in the Discord server.

Cups

  • Cups are free to enter. First and second place earn trophies; cup matches award no XP and don't change ratings. A cup may announce a prize pool under its published rules.
  • Sign up any time before the start. Check-in opens before the start (each cup page shows when), and entries that haven't checked in when the bracket starts are dropped.
  • In team cups, a captain or co-captain enters the team and picks the lineup from the roster, plus up to 2 substitutes. Any player in the lineup can check in.
  • Everyone in a lineup has to be set up on Lockd, old enough for the game, inside the cup's region, platform and input limits, and not banned.
  • Every bracket match is a Lockd match, with the reporting, evidence and appeal rules above. The ready check is longer: a side without a full lineup ready within 10 minutes loses by forfeit; if neither side is ready, both are out.
  • Seeds come from your rating in the cup's mode, plus a small bonus for account level. Staff can change seeds before the start.
  • Pulling out after the bracket starts forfeits the rest of your run. In team cups, only a captain or co-captain can pull the team out.
  • Staff decide anything these rules don't cover. They can settle or replay a bracket match and disqualify an entry that breaks the rules, and every decision is logged.

Seasons and prizes

  • Seasons last 60 days, with a reward split every 30 days.
  • Prizes are fixed and published before a split starts, and never depend on how many people play.
  • Each prize is worth at most $750, and each player can win at most $1,999 in prize value per calendar year. A prize that would go over the yearly limit passes to the next eligible player.
  • Winners are confirmed within 7 days after a split ends, once open disputes and appeals are decided.
  • Winners have 30 days to claim a prize on the Prizes page. A prize that isn't claimed in time, or that's forfeited, goes to the next eligible player in that split's standings, who then has 30 days to claim it.
  • Players under 18 need a parent or guardian to agree to the claim. Where shipping isn't practical, a prize may be swapped for a gift card of equal value.
